Work-Life Balance Research
My latest piece of research on work life balance is complete and available in a Squidoo lens here!
The idea for this came about quite unexpectedly. An article I wrote on ‘Balance’ created such a lot of interest and discussion, with people responding particularly to the idea that enjoyment can come from working hard as well as from home and leisure activities.
For example this is what Teresa said:
” I really liked this sentence …: ‘Telling them to cut their working hours and take up bird-watching is not necessarily going to make them a happier or more balanced person.’ That is so true. Some people truly thrive in their work environment and it’s exceptional and wonderful that you understand and embrace that!”
JJ said: ” Have finally come to the understanding that I like the work I do and, more to the point, I need the mental exercise. … I feel much happier since I stopped complaining about feeling overworked and started accepting that it’s me that’s setting the limits”
I was intrigued by their reactions and decided to test out the attitudes people have to work, life and the work-life balance. I designed a short, simple survey to see how many extra hours people work, how they feel about it, and what kinds of events in their lives give the most satisfaction. My thanks to all who completed it!
I have “published” the results on Squidoo here but if you would like the raw data in spreadsheet form you’re more than welcome. I only ask that if you use it, you credit me and include a link to this website. Please let me have your e-mail address here:
